New Westminster – On the morning of May 6, New Westminster Police Department officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Columbia Street for a report of an assault with an edged weapon. Police rushed to the scene locating a victim with stab wounds on both of her arms. The victim was bleeding heavily and officers provided life-saving first aid, applying tourniquets to each arm. Other officers arrived on scene and began collecting evidence, interviewing people in the area, and canvasing for CCTV footage.
“Officers acted quickly to provide emergency aid and begin gathering evidence,” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “We’re still determining the full circumstances of what happened.”
The victim was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services Paramedics. At this stage in the investigation, it is unclear what relationship, if any, exists between the victim and the suspect.
