Patrol officers arrest suspect after responding to a report of assault with a weapon

New Westminster – On January 19th at approximately 7:00am police were made aware of an assault with a weapon on Clarkson Street in Downtown New Westminster. Officers rushed to the scene and with the assistance of New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services, located an adult male with a stab wound to his shoulder. Officers provided aid to the victim and BC Emergency Health Services Paramedics transported him to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers searched the area for CCTV, collected evidence, and spoke to people at the scene.

Within three hours patrol officers located and arrested a suspect. The assault does not appear to be random as it is believed the suspect and the victim are known to each other. The suspect was found to be violating court ordered conditions.

“This is what our patrol officers do best,” said Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “If you’re a victim of crime, call us. We’re here to help and make sure those responsible are held accountable.”

Anyone in the area who witnessed the assault and has not yet spoken to police are encouraged to call 604-525-5411 and reference file 25-1071.
