New Westminster – On July 30th, 2024 at approximately 10:00pm a witness flagged down a New Westminster Police officer outside the police station to report that a man was in distress and in need of assistance. Officers located the man, who appeared to the victim of a stabbing. Officers provided the man emergency first aid, which included controlling bleeding and tending to major abdominal trauma. BC Emergency Health Services Paramedics transported the victim to hospital. It is believed that the altercation took place near the staircase from the Front Street parkade leading into Westminster Pier Park.
Police are asking for witnesses to come forward. “We believe there were a number of people who witnessed the event and have yet to speak to police,” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “It is concerning to see this violence occurring in our downtown, especially near one of our city parks. We encourage anyone who witnessed the event or who has information about what happened to call us immediately.”
Police are looking for two suspects, the first is described as a Black male with a speech impediment, who stands approximately 6’5” tall, has a slim build, was wearing a horizontal stripe shirt and jeans. The second suspect is described as an Indigenous male, standing approximately 5’5”, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, jeans, baseball hat and a blue medical mask. The two suspects were seen with two women at the scene. The New Westminster Police Major Crime Unit have taken conduct of the investigation and the Forensic Identification Unit have processed the scene.
