Street Crime Unit and Integrated Emergency Response Team make arrests in connection to drug trafficking investigation

New Westminster – On March 28th at approximately 11:00 am, the New Westminster Police Department Street Crime Unit with the assistance of the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team made arrests in connection to an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. The arrests took place in the area of McBride Boulevard and Eighth Avenue. Flash bangs, which are very loud and used to distract suspects, were used. Two suspects were taken into custody without incident.

Warrants were also executed in two multi family residences in Uptown and Downtown New Westminster. The investigation involved working with other police agencies in the province with a focus on drug trafficking and violent offenders in New Westminster.

“Drug trafficking and the violence associated with it is not welcome in New Westminster,” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “If you think your illegal activity isn’t going to be noticed by our Street Crime Unit then I’d ask you to pause and think again. We’re watching.”

At this time, it’s too early to say what was seized from the suites that were searched, but the public can expect more details in the near future. Anyone with information on drug activity in their neighbourhood is asked to contact the New Westminster Police at 604-525-5411.
