Major Crime Unit Investigating Assault at New Westminster SkyTrain Station

New Westminster – On December 25th at approximately 1700 hours, New Westminster Police Department officers responded to a report of an assault at the New Westminster SkyTrain Station. Patrol officers determined that the assault had taken place on the main level, in the mall area of the station. The victim was transported to a local area hospital by BC Emergency Health Services in serious condition, however is expected to recover.

This incident is now being investigated by the New Westminster Police Department Major Crime Unit. The relationship between the suspect and victim is still being investigated by police, but this incident is isolated and there is not believed to be any increased risk to the public.

“We’re in the early stages of this investigation. Our Detectives, alongside our Forensic Identification Unit are working hard to determine what happened” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “We understand there were numerous commuters in the area that may have witnessed this assault, or that may have relevant information. We’re asking those people to come forward to tell us about what they saw.”
