Man charged after allegedly threatening to stab staff with needle

New Westminster – At approximately 2:00 pm on November 19th the New Westminster Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from staff at a local grocery store. According to staff, a male was observed stealing merchandise from the store before threatening to stab people with a needle. New Westminster Police Department officers rushed to the scene and located someone matching the suspect description at the Sapperton SkyTrain Station.

Since his arrest, 41 year old Shane Murray Stanway of Langley has been charged with the following offences:

One count of Robbery, contrary to section 344 (1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

“These employees were just trying to do their job,” stated Sergeant Justine Thom. “It’s appalling that staff were subjected to this type of abuse and it’s extremely fortunate that no one was seriously injured. Excellent work done by our patrol officers who were at the scene within minutes.”
