Pedestrian struck by driver in Uptown neighbourhood and suffers serious injuries

New Westminster – On Monday, October 23rd at approximately 8:00 pm, members of the New Westminster Police Department located a pedestrian that had been struck by a driver in the parking lot of a gas station near the intersection of 6th Avenue and Eighth Street.

Officers provided aid to the 84 year old man who had sustained serious injuries. The pedestrian was transported to local hospital and investigators began working to identify the driver.

Investigators are seeking witnesses and dash cam footage from the area of 6th Avenue and Eighth Street from 7:45pm to 8:00pm. Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a white pick up truck with construction equipment in the box of the truck. The driver is described as an Asian male.

“We urge motorists who were driving near the intersection before or after the time of the hit and run to check their dashcam footage for similar-looking vehicles,” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver, “Your surveillance or dash camera may have captured something. Please check.”

Additionally, the New Westminster Police Department are asking the driver to do the right thing and come forward to police. Anyone who witnessed this event and have not yet spoken to investigators is encouraged to call 604-525-5411. Please reference file number 2023-17944.
