Man arrested after brandishing a knife inside Columbia Square Plaza

New Westminster – At approximately noon on July 25th the New Westminster Police Department were called to Columbia Square Plaza after a man described a suspect brandishing a knife and threatening to kill him. Officers rushed to the area and quickly located someone matching the suspect description. Officers arrested this suspect without incident and he was transported to New Westminster Police Department cells.

At this time, the following charges will be forwarded to Crown Counsel:

One count of Assault with a Weapon contrary to section 267(c) of the Criminal Code of Canada

One count of Uttering Threats contrary to section 264. of the Criminal Code of Canada

Two counts of Breach of Probation contrary to section 733.1 of the Criminal Code of Canada

“This suspect has multiple court ordered conditions, and because of the diligence of the public in reporting his behavior to police, our officers were able to identify him and recommend the appropriate charges,” stated Media Relations Officer Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “We strive to ensure that our city is safe for everyone to enjoy, and we want to thank the public for their assistance in working towards that goal.”
