New Westminster – At 12:10 pm on June 29th the New Westminster Police Department were called to the 400 block of Carnarvon where they located a woman who had been stabbed. Officers rushed to provide life-saving aid before the victim was transported to local area hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics. The Major Crime Unit was deployed and took conduct of the investigation.
In the evening of June 29th, Wael Elkady of New Westminster was arrested and is now charged with Aggravated Assault. Mr. Elkady remains in custody and the investigation remains ongoing. The victim and suspect are known to each other and there is not believed to be any risk to the public.
“Our detectives continue to gather evidence and speak to witnesses” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “These are complex investigations, and our Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Section are working hard to piece together what happened”.
