Charges approved against suspect following carjacking and dangerous driving in Uptown

New Westminster – On May 17th the New Westminster Police Department arrested a suspect after witnesses reported to 9-1-1 that a taxi was driving erratically in the Uptown neighbourhood. It is alleged that the taxi was stolen and was striking other vehicles. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries as a result of this incident.

27 year old Kaeden Hnatiw of New Westminster has been charged with the following:

One count of Robbery, contrary to section 344 (1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

One count of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to Section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

“Thanks again to public for their patience as we understand this was a significant disruption to the neighbourhood,” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “This individual was safely taken into custody thanks to the excellent work our front line officers and we are thankful nobody was seriously injured.”
