New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department are in the early stages of investigating a fatal single vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 6:40 am on East 8th Avenue between Richmond Street and E Columbia Street. Traffic has been rerouted and drivers are asked to avoid the area. The collision has caused a local power outage and city crews are responding. If motorists encounter an intersection with no power, they are asked to treat the intersection as a four way stop.
First responders at the scene of the collision have had to take safety precautions, as there are live wires at the scene. BC Coroner and the Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Service have been notified.
“Police are in the early stages of this investigation,” stated Sergeant Leaver. “If you witnessed this collision or have dash-cam footage please reach out to police.”
