Witnesses asked to come forward following assault with a weapon

New Westminster – On November 21st at approximately 2:30pm New Westminster Police Department officers were dispatched to the 900 block of 12th Street after a witnesses reported hearing a gun shot and observed what he believed to be an injured man holding a large knife walk into a convenience store. Additional witnesses shared that inside the convenience store this suspect assaulted someone before both the suspect and the victim fled the scene. Police rushed to the scene but were unable to locate anyone matching the suspect or victim description. Officers secured the scene and began collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and canvasing for CCTV footage.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the 900 block of 12th Street to reach out to the New Westminster Police Department to share what they saw.

“We’re in the early stages of this investigation,” stated Sergeant Justine Thom. “We’re trying to determine the well-being of the person who was assaulted inside the store. We’re also working to determine what the relationship, if any, the victim and the suspect have to one another.”
