New Westminster – On October 17th at approximately 10:50 pm, New Westminster Police Department officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Hospital Street for a report of a male breaking into a vehicle. The complainant provided updates on the male through 9-1-1 and upon arrival, officers located the male inside another vehicle in the area. This individual was subsequently arrested without incident. Upon his arrest, investigators were able to determine it appeared the suspect had attempted to steal both vehicles.
45-year-old Kevin VANDERWAL of Maple Ridge, BC has been charged with the following offences:
- 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Order pursuant to Section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code; and
- 2 counts of Theft of Motor Vehicle pursuant to Section 333.1(1) of the Criminal Code.
“We want to commend the complainant on their call to 9-1-1” stated Sergeant Thom. “This arrest truly highlights the importance of reporting suspicious behaviour to police as well as providing as much information as possible.”
