Charges approved against two suspects in connection to 12th Street shooting

New Westminster – In the early morning hours of January 2nd the New Westminster Police Department officers responded to a shooting in the 400 block of 12th Street. Multiple shots were fired into the residence and the suspects fled the scene. Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of the shooting. Numerous specialty units assisted in collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and canvassing for CCTV footage.

After several months of investigation by the Major Crime Unit, two suspects were arrested and charges were approved relating to attempted murder, aggravated assault, and firearms offences.

40 year old Justin Crowchild of New Westminster and 43 year old Danica Ulmer of New Westminster have both been charged with the following:

One count of attempt to commit murder with a weapon, contrary to section 239(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

“Over many months investigators worked diligently to collect evidence, identify key evidence, and work with Crown Counsel in order to obtain charge approval,” stated Sergeant Justine Thom. “The attempt to take someone’s life is a serious matter and bringing those responsible to justice is always a key goal with violent offences.”

Both suspects remain in custody. If you, or someone you know, is ready to leave organized crime, there is help available by reaching out to the CFSEU-BC’s Gang Intervention and Exiting Team. They can be reached at 604-897-6023 or gangintervention@cfseu.bc.ca.
