Robbery in Downtown New Westminster causes increased concern for police

New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department is sharing concerns after a woman was robbed in New Westminster.

On July 9th at approximately 8:00pm a woman was robbed by three suspects while standing outside an ATM inside the Shops at New West near the New Westminster SkyTrain Station. Three people who were not known to the woman approached her and asked for her cigarettes and transit pass. One of the suspects threatened to throw her off the nearby fourth floor railing if she did not comply with their demands. The suspects left the scene with the transit pass and cigarettes.

“We’re growing very concerned about the recent increase in these kinds of robberies,” stated Sergeant Justine Thom. “This is the third robbery in the past week. Our Robbery Coordinator that is based out of the Major Crime Unit is reviewing all of these files to look for trends and is liaising with other agencies in an effort to identify suspects.”

The suspects in this most recent robbery are described as follows: The first suspect is described as a white male, 30-40 years old, with brown hair and brown facial hair, wearing a white shirt and jeans. The second suspect is described as a white female with a slim build, standing 5’8” tall, with brown hair in a ponytail. The third suspect is described as a white male, 20-30 years of age, standing 6’0” tall, with brown hair and a red sweater.

Officers are canvassing the area for CCTV footage and working with our public safety partners in the Lower Mainland region including the Metro Vancouver Transit Police. If you witnessed this incident, or have CCTV footage please reach out to the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
