Officers arrest suspect after receiving call for help from drug store staff

New Westminster – On May 12th at approximately 5:00 pm the New Westminster Police Department received a call from a staff member at a drug store near the New Westminster SkyTrain Station bus loop. The staff member shared that they were witnessing a man trying to access the cash register, and that this man told staff he had a gun.

New Westminster Police Department officers flooded the area and located a man matching the suspect description inside the drug store. The suspect was arrested without incident. No firearm was located. The police response did temporarily close the New Westminster SkyTrain Station bus loop.

“I want to remind all business owners and staff in New Westminster that if you ever feel unsafe, call 9-1-1 and we will be there,” stated Sergeant Sanjay Kumar. “This staff member did the right thing, and we’re happy this was resolved quickly and safely.”

Police learned that the suspect was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole revocation. The suspect was transported to the New Westminster Police Department cells. The investigation is ongoing.
