Officers arrest suspect after resident sees suspect prying at balcony door

New Westminster – On April 30th at approximately 1:00 am the New Westminster Police Department received a call from a resident in the Quayside neighbourhood who shared they were watching someone prying at their balcony door. The resident provided a suspect description and the direction the suspect fled.

Patrol officers and the Lower Mainland District Police Dog Service rushed to the area. Police observed someone matching the suspect description as they approached the scene. This suspect was recognized by the responding officer as he has spoken to him earlier that evening. The suspect was detained as police continued to investigate the incident. It was learned that the objects that were in the suspect’s possession earlier in the evening, were located at the attempt break and enter. The New Westminster Police arrested a 43-year-old male for break and enter.

“This arrest was made possible due to the observations of both the resident and the patrol officer,” stated Sergeant Sanjay Kumar. “Our patrol officers did excellent work in helping this resident during their time of need.”
