Emergency 9-1-1

Retail staff call police when man with firearm seen outside store

New Westminster – At approximately 6:30 am on November 20th New Westminster Police Department officers were called to a retail store in Queensborough. Allegedly, staff at the store witnessed someone with what appeared to be a black handgun outside the store. NWPD officers and the Integrated Police Dog Service attended the parking lot where they located an individual matching the description and took him into custody.

The suspect had in their possession a BB gun, collapsible baton, and a large quantity of drugs which is believed to be methamphetamine, fentanyl, and crack cocaine.

“Thanks to the quick thinking staff who called 9-1-1 when they saw someone with a weapon,” stated Sergeant Kumar. “If anyone sees someone with a weapon it’s important that they don’t approach that individual, be as covert as possible, and call 9-1-1 right away. Providing real time updates to police is tremendously helpful in taking suspects safely into custody.”

The New Westminster Police Department would like to extend our thanks to the Integrated Police Dog Service for their assistance in responding to this call.
