Suspect pleads guilty to two charges related to Osborne Avenue shooting

New Westminster – On November 17th, 2019 at approximately 7:30pm, members of the New Westminster Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 200 block of Osborne Avenue. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival, and one adult female was transported to hospital with injuries.

New Westminster Police Major Crime and Street Crime detectives conducted an extensive investigation and were able to identify and locate a suspect. With the assistance of the VPD Emergency Response Team, 24 year old Carlos Monteith was arrested and charged with several offences. Carlos Monteith has remained in custody since his arrest.

In April of 2021 during his trial Carlos Monteith pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm with intent and possession of a loaded prohibited firearm. Carlos Monteith received a six and a half year sentence for discharging a firearm and a three year sentence for possession of a loaded prohibited firearm.

“This file really highlights the professionalism and great work NWPD members do,” stated Deputy Chief Constable Paul Hyland. “From the life saving measures performed by the responding patrol officers to the detailed investigation completed by our Major Crime Unit, I’m very pleased with all their efforts”
