NWPD respond to a collision involving a cyclist and driver of a tractor trailer in the Braid industrial area

New Westminster – On October 30th, 2020 at approximately 5:00 pm the New Westminster Police responded to a report of a collision involving a cyclist and a tractor trailer unit in the Braid industrial area. Upon arrival it was determined the cyclist had suffered significant injuries and he was transported to a local area hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition. The NWPD would like to thank the members of the public who provided initial aid to the cyclist after the incident.

“As we move into winter, loss of visibility and changing conditions can make roads more hazardous,” stated Sergeant Sanjay Kumar, “While we have yet to determine the cause of this incident, we would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to increase their awareness on our roadways.”

The driver of the trailer remained on scene and was cooperative with police.  The Traffic and Collision Unit were called to the scene to conduct a forensic analysis of the collision, the results of which will take some time to be finalized. Investigators are canvassing the surrounding area for video surveillance. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in this collision. Anyone who has information regarding this incident is asked to contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
