The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival, and one adult female was transported to hospital with injuries.

New Westminster Police Major Crime and Street Crime detectives conducted an extensive investigation and were able to identify and locate a suspect. With the assistance of the VPD Emergency Response Team, 24 year old Carlos Monteith was arrested and charged with several offences.

“NWPD Investigators worked around the clock through the weekend, and because of their commitment to public safety they were able to identify and arrest the suspect to bring him before the courts,” stated acting Chief Constable Dave Jansen. “I am very proud of the dedication of our officers and of the teamwork with our partners at the Vancouver Police.”

Mr. Monteith has been charged with the following offences:

  1. Attempt murder with a firearm, section 239(1)(a.1) of the Criminal Code;
