Join us for Coffee with a Cop

New Westminster – All residents are invited to join members of the New Westminster Police Department for Coffee with a Cop happening October 10th from noon to 3:00pm.

“This is an opportunity for us to listen to community members and answer any questions they have,” stated Acting Chief Constable Dave Jansen. “Interacting with the community is a key part of the policing role and it is something we do in a variety of different forms. The more we are in tune with the community, the more we understand the needs of the community.”

This is the second Coffee with a Cop event in which New Westminster Police Department officers and community members connect in a non-scripted, open forum. The first event saw members of the public asking questions about the law or simply having a chat about what’s on their mind.

“This is really a more formal version of what we do all the time,” Stated Sergeant Jeff Scott, “Whenever we go into coffee shops, people ask questions and engage with you. Events like this break down barriers and it becomes a less intimidating situation.”

The New Westminster Police Department encourages residents to bring a reusable coffee cup and take part. Coffee with a Cop will be held on October 10th between noon and 3:00pm at the 601 Columbia Street Starbucks.
