Incident at NWSS

New Westminster – On September 11th, 2019, at approximately 10:45am, the New Westminster Police Department responded to a report of an isolated incident involved a physical confrontation among four students in an upper level walkway at New Westminster Secondary School.  One student was allegedly assaulted by three other students during escalation of a previous argument.

The New Westminster Police Child and Youth Resource Officers arrested four students and continue to work with school and district administration to determine the facts of the incident. In addition, school and district teams are providing students, staff and any families that were affected by this incident with ongoing support.

“This was an isolated incident between specific students and no one was seriously injured. There is no risk to any other students at the school,” stated Sergeant Jeff Scott.

New Westminster Secondary School does not condone any fighting, bullying or harassment of others either on or off school property. The school and district are working in collaboration with the New Westminster Police Department to review the incident to prevent such events from happening in future.

The investigation is on-going.
