Emergency 9-1-1

Robbery suspect facing multiple charges

New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department’s Major Crime Unit have now secured several charges against a male suspected in a number of robberies in the Lower Mainland.

Between December 5th 2018 and January 7th 2019, four small business robberies occurred in the cities of New Westminster, Coquitlam, and Burnaby. The suspect allegedly covered his face while demanding money and holding what appeared to be a firearm.

After an extensive investigation, a suspect was identified. Investigators located the suspect’s residence and on January 29th, 2019, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team, a warrant was served to search his residence. When executing the warrant, officers located and arrested the suspect.

The New Westminster Police Department would like to take this opportunity to thank both the Coquitlam and Burnaby RCMP detachments for their cooperative effort that brought all these investigations together.

“Criminals don’t restrict themselves by municipal boundaries, and this is a great example of neighbouring police agencies working together to identify and arrest a subject wanted for multiple robberies,” stated Media Relations Officer Sergeant Jeff Scott.

Mr. Bonsell is currently in-custody awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for Monday February 11th, 2019.
