New Westminster – This media release has been issued in response to media requests for updates regarding the Police Act investigation into the police officers who were recently acquitted of sex offense charges in Cuba and returned home to Canada.
New Westminster Police Chief Constable Dave Jones has been designated as the Disciplinary Authority for this investigation. Currently the investigation is suspended, pending the outcome of the criminal justice process occurring in Cuba. Now that this has been resolved, it is understood that the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner (OPCC) will be assigning the Police Act investigation to an external police agency, who will then arrange to have it the matter unsuspended.
Once the investigation is reactivated and material is received from the assigned investigating agency, Chief Constable Jones will be in a position to make decisions on the operational status of the police officers involved.
