New Westminster Police Arrest Suspect in Long Gun Case

New Westminster – The New Westminster Police has arrested an adult male in relation to the investigation of a man entering the Royal Columbian Hospital with a long gun.

On October 9th, at approximately 10:20pm New Westminster Police Department received reports from the Sapperton Station area of a man with what appeared to be a rifle. Information was also received that the male’s intention was selling the rifle. Updated reports indicated the male entered the underground parking garage on the Royal Columbian Hospital property.

On October 10th, at 11:55pm, a suspect was arrested. The adult New Westminster resident was transported to cells, and the Major Crime Unit has since taken conduct of the investigation.

“A report of this nature is something we take very seriously. We devoted numerous resources during the initial call for service, and for the investigation that followed,” stated Sergeant Jeff Scott, “There is no public safety concern at this time, as we have the male in-custody who is alleged to have been carrying the firearm. We are thankful for this safe outcome, and our investigation is on-going.”

The suspect has been arrested for firearms related offences, charges have not yet been laid, but he remains in custody.
