New Westminster Police Department respond to reports of man with long gun

New Westminster – On October 9, at approximately 10:20pm New Westminster Police Department received reports from the Sapperton Station area of a man with a rifle. Information was also received that the male’s intention was selling the rifle. Updated reports indicated the male entered the Royal Columbian Hospital near the underground parking garage.

New Westminster Police Department and Transit Police set up a containment area around the hospital and the hospital was placed on lockdown. Additional agencies arrived on scene to assist including Coquitlam RCMP, Surrey RCMP, and the Integrated Police Dog Services.

An extensive search of the hospital and surrounding parking garages was conducted to ensure the safety of staff and patients, however the male was not located.  CCTV footage has been obtained for closer analysis.

“Our investigation into this incident continues,” stated Sergeant Jeff Scott, “It’s with good reason that the safe transportation of firearms is a matter we take very seriously. We’re asking for public assistance in passing along any information, including photo or video footage they may have of the suspect.”
