Suspects charged with multiple offences in relation to 2017 fentanyl seizure

New Westminster – Close to a year ago, the New Westminster Police Department Street Crime Unit engaged in a project to investigate suspected drug dealing and on-going criminal activity in New Westminster.

In this investigation several search warrants were executed throughout Surrey and New Westminster, and from those we seized a number of vehicles, a large quantity of cash, multiple firearms, replica firearms, and a large amount of drugs including heroin containing lethal levels of fentanyl and pure fentanyl. The total amount of drugs from the seizure had an estimated street value of approximately $300,000.

Six people have been arrested and charged in relation to these offences:

31 year old Surrey resident, Neil Naidu, has been charged with the following offences:
1. Twenty counts of Trafficking Heroin and Fentanyl, section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
2. One count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

25 year old Surrey resident, Manisha Lidhar, has been charged with the following offences:
1. Nine counts of Trafficking Heroin and Fentanyl, section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
2. One count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

20 year old Surrey resident, Pahul Lidhar, has been charged with the following offences:
1. Eight counts of Trafficking Heroin, Fentanyl and Cocaine, section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
2. Two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

28 year old Surrey resident, Tyler Sandhu, has been charged with the following offences:
1. One count of Trafficking Heroin and Fentanyl, section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
2. One count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
3. Four counts of Possessing a Firearm, section 91(1) of the Criminal Code.

32 year old Surrey resident, Eric Hanif, has been charged with the following offences:
1. One count of Trafficking Heroin and Fentanyl, section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;

24 year old Chilliwack resident, Matthew Sharafi, has been charged with the following offences:
1. One count of Trafficking Heroin and Fentanyl, section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
2. One count of Trafficking Cocaine, section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;

“These kinds of investigations take a lot of experience and expertise from detectives, and our Street Crime Unit along with our partnering agencies have successfully recommended multiple drug offence charges,” stated Media Relations Officer Sergeant Jeff Scott. “We take these offences very seriously, which is why our Street Crime Unit has devoted the time and energy to stop drug dealers from profiting in our city.”

Mr. Naidu remains in custody to appear in court, and the others have been released pending an upcoming court appearance.
