New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department is in the early stages of an investigation with the BC Coroners Service over the death of a 2 year old child. On June 7th 2017 at approximately 11pm, officers responded to a 911 call for help in the 300 block of Stanley Street, for a suspected drowning. The 2 year old child was transported to a local hospital where she was tragically pronounced deceased.
“We’ve given the family all the support that we have available to help manage this tragic time in their life,” stated Media Relations Officer Sergeant Jeff Scott. “Our Major Crime Unit is currently investigating with the BC Coroners Service to determine the cause of death, and at this point foul play is not suspected. This tragedy affects us all, and our thoughts go out to the family.”
