Drug linked to the death of New Westminster teen was MDMA

New Westminster – New Westminster Police Department has received toxicology reports from the BC Coroner Service and it has been determined that the drug linked to the death of a New Westminster teen and hospitalization of another was MDMA.

Initial reports indicated that the pills sold to the teens were a combination of MDMA and a mixture of unknown drugs, but after further testing the drug was found to be MDMA.

“MDMA can increase blood pressure and cause body temperature to spike,” stated Sergeant Jeff Scott, “We are urging the public, especially those going out and planning to take recreational drugs to think twice. There is always a risk when taking drugs and the only way of staying safe is to avoid drugs altogether.”

The New Westminster Department Street Crime Unit continues to investigate who the drug dealer is who sold the MDMA to the two New Westminster students.

The New Westminster Police Department would like encourage anyone who knows about the case and has not yet spoken to detectives to call non-emergency line at 604-525-5411.
