New Westminster Police Department changes coat of arms

New Westminster – After 25 years, the New Westminster Police department will change its coat of arms. While much of the coat of arms remains the same as the previous, the inner scroll has been updated to read: Safety, Service, Integrity. The previous version of the scroll read: Safety, Service, Friendship.

“For us integrity is about ensuring that the people who keep this city safe uphold our values, strive to do the right thing in all situations, and have the confidence of the public,” stated Chief Constable Dave Jones. “Our members are proud to work for a department with a strong history of accountability and transparency. Adding the word integrity to our coat of arms plays a part in communicating this core value into every facet of our operations.”

The new coat of arms was decided upon after consultation with both employees of the New Westminster Police Department and the Police Board.

Residents can expect to see the new coat of arms gradually replace the old one over the next year. The coat of arms has only been changed twice in the history of the New Westminster Police Department, first in 1992 it was changed from a badge that was used for more than 130 years.
