New Westminster Police Department investigates dog bite

New Westminster – On August 11th, 2016 at approximately 7:55pm, New Westminster Police Department patrol officers responded to a dog attack in the unit block of Dufferin Street. An adult male was walking his dog on a leash when two unleashed dogs ran up and began attacking his dog.

After the attack the owners of the unleashed dogs put their dogs in their car and left the area before police arrived. The other owner took his dog to an emergency veterinarian.

“We are actively investigating this incident to determine what charges may be appropriate and to identify the owners of the unleashed dogs,” stated Media Relations Officer Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott. “We continue to speak with witnesses and review evidence, and we want to remind dog owners of the bylaw that requires all dogs to be on leash unless in a designated area, such as a dog park or in a fenced yard.”

The NWPD is working in collaboration with City of New Westminster Animal Services. The NWPD wants to remind all dog owners of the City’s Bylaws, which can be found on the City of New Westminster website.
