New Westminster – In the early hours of March 23rd, a 94 year old woman was reported missing. Zita Gondek, who suffers from dementia, was last seen at her family home in Queensborough at midnight. The New Westminster Police Department immediately responded and extensively searched the area with the assistance of the Police Dog Service and the New Westminster Fire Department.
Patrol officers began walking through neighboring yards and backyards in search of Mrs. Gondek. With the rain and cold weather, the officers were deeply concerned for her well being. Thankfully, officers who were looking through yards located Mrs. Gondek hunched down, trying to cover herself from the rainfall.
“We’re extremely grateful that Mrs. Gondek was safely found,” stated Media Relations Officer Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott. “We do everything we can to locate anyone who has been reported missing.”
