NWPD seeking Good Samaritan in possible child luring

New Westminster – On March 14th, the New Westminster Police Department distributed a sketch of a suspect who had approached an 11 year old girl shortly after 3:00 pm on March 8th. The man was driving an older model red panel van when he approached a young girl who was walking in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue. The man opened the door and asked her to get in, but she refused and ran from the area.

Because the red van appeared suspicious and out of place for the area, a Good Samaritan who was driving in the area of 3rd Avenue may have warned the girl just prior to the red van approaching her. The NWPD Major Crime Unit continues to aggressively investigate this serious offence and are pursuing every lead that is received.

“Our Major Crime Unit is pouring an extensive amount of effort into this case,” stated Media Relations Officer Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott. “We are taking this very seriously and need to speak with the person who may have warned the girl just prior to the van approaching her. It is possible that person does not even know that they are instrumental in this case, and our detectives need to speak with him or her.”

If you have any information about the man seen in the composite drawing, or any other information regarding this incident, please call Detective Wickham at 604-525-5411 or email him at awickham@nwpolice.org .

If you were driving in the area at the time of the incident and warned a girl who was walking about a suspicious red van, please call NWPD immediately.
