New Westminster – On February 21st 2016 at approximately 10:00am, members of the NWPD investigated a report of shots fired inside a building in the 600 block of Blackford Street. When officers arrived, they observed a bullet hole through a door and wall. There were no injuries that resulted from the shooting, but the Major Crime Unit took over conduct of the investigation.
The Major Crime Unit executed a search warrant on a suite inside the building, where they located a firearm and large quantity of drugs. 23 year old New Westminster resident, Gage McPake, and 21 year old New Westminster resident, Cody Stuiver, were arrested and charged with the following offences:
1. Possession of a loaded restricted firearm, contrary to section 95(1) of the Criminal Code.
“We’re thankful that no one was injured from the shooting, and at this point it does not appear that anyone was targeted,” stated Media Relations Officer Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott. “The shots were fired inside their own suite, and our Major Crime Unit is continuing to investigate any drug related offences.”
Mr. McPake and Mr. Stuiver remain in custody until their next court appearance scheduled for March 2nd 2016. This investigation is on-going, but there is no public safety concern at this time.
