New Westminster – On January 28th 2016 at 6:30pm the New Westminster Police Department, in partnership with District Parent Advisory Council, School District 40, New Westminster Community Schools, New Westminster Parks, Culture and Recreation, Fraserside Community Service, Family Services, and New Westminster Teacher’s Union, are hosting Parents’ Night Out at the Justice Institute of BC.
As part of Parents’ Night Out, Jesse Miller and Carol Todd will be speaking about social networking and what kids are doing online. Jesse Miller is a social media expert who will be delivering a workshop for parents to better gain understanding of how kids are using social media, and the value of digital citizenship. At the end of the workshop, parents will be provided a question and answer period with our panel of experts.
The media is invited to speak with organizers and the police partners before and after the event. Some photography and footage can be captured during the workshop to help gain awareness about social media safety.
“Our goal with this partnership is to help educate parents on the potential risks associated with social media,” stated Media Relations Officer Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott. “We hope to provide them with tips and tools they can share with kids so they can minimize negative experiences and maximize the positive opportunities that social media has to offer.”
Tickets are now sold-out for those wishing to attend, but the media is invited and asked to RSVP should they be interested in attending.
