New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department is excited to announce the 2016 to 2019 Strategic Plan. As the City of New Westminster continues to grow, the NWPD has set out three major strategic directions and their respective objectives, which provides clear direction and organizational accountability. Throughout 2015, the NWPD conducted a series of consultations to arrive at the major goals and objectives for the next four years.
“Over the past several months we have consulted widely, drawing on the insights of citizens, community groups, business representatives, elected officials, as well as the knowledge and expertise of our own employees,” stated Chief Constable Dave Jones. “This Strategic Plan represents a promise to the community of New Westminster as we continue to do everything that is possible to keep everyone safe and secure.”
The NWPD Strategic Plan gives the department clarity of direction moving into the next four years. With the mission of the department in mind – “Keeping New Westminster safe and secure” – the 2016 to 2019 Strategic Plan has three main strategic directions:
- Reduce crime and enhance safety. In order to achieve this goal, the NWPD has established three main objectives: enhancing traffic and road safety; increasing police visibility and public safety; and focusing resources on high crime areas and prolific offenders.
- Improve engagement with key partners and communities. The three main objectives that are set out to reach this goal include improving external communication; building effective relationships; and, maintaining strong relationships with policing partners.
- Optimize use of department resources. To accomplish this strategic direction, the three main objectives include ensuring efficient use of personnel and technology; supporting training and leadership development; and, enhancing internal communication and fostering a healthy workplace.
We encourage everyone to review our 2016 to 2019 Strategic Plan and look forward to continuing to work closely with the members of our community in keeping New Westminster safe and secure.
