New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department will be out in force over the Thanksgiving long weekend in support of Operation Impact. This national campaign will run from October 9th – 12th and the New Westminster Police Department will be engaging in heightened traffic safety enforcement and education aimed at unsafe driving behaviors.
Operation Impact has been strategically chosen to take place over this long weekend as more people are traveling on our roadways and traffic collisions are more frequent. In addition to enforcement, education is an important component of Operation Impact.
“The tragedies resulting from carelessness behind the wheel can be easily prevented,” stated Chief Constable Dave Jones. “The NWPD is happy to be collaborating with police agencies from across the country for Operation Impact in an effort to achieve safer roadways for everyone.”
Operation Impact is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and member agencies of the CACP Traffic Committee from across Canada in support of Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2015 which has a goal of making Canada’s roads the safest in the world.
