Social media safety tips for when you’re on vacation

Social media Safety tips

It may be tempting to share with friends and coworkers the fun you’re having while on vacation via social media, but there are a few reasons why you should wait until you return home.

A thief trolling using social media may see your vacation post. That person will be able to put two and two together and infer that you are not at home, since you are posting while on vacation. They will then have ample time to rob your house since you aren’t going to be back anytime soon.

Smart phones and tablets have location services that identify where you are by using GPS or Wi-Fi hotspots. By disabling the location-identifying settings, your geographic location won’t be captured if you post.

Vacationing with friends or family? You should probably not tag them in pictures or status updates while you are all still on vacation because doing so will indicate their current location as well. Wait until everyone is safely at home and then tag them later if they want to be tagged.
