New Westminster – On July 2nd 2015 at approximately 2:00 am, members of the New Westminster Police Department responded to the area of 5th Avenue and Ash Street for a report of a robbery.  The victim, a taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint after one male produced a gun and the other produced an axe in order to obtain the drivers wallet and cash.

The NWPD would like to thank members of the public and policing community for their assistance in this matter.  Both of the individuals pictured in the security video from the victim’s taxi were quickly identified and arrested after the information was made public.

25 year old, Patrick James Stacey Nichols of Surrey has been charged with the following criminal offences:

  1. Robbery contrary to Section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  2. Uttering Threats contrary to Section 264.1(1) Criminal Code

The second male, a 32 year old resident of Surrey remains in custody on charges unrelated to this matter after being arrested in Surrey over the weekend.  The NWPD Major Crime Unit will be requesting charges on this male later this week.

“These individuals are currently in custody as a direct result of the astute observations by members of the Vancouver Police Department who recognized one of the males after viewing the NWPD’s request for assistance” stated Acting Inspector Chad Johnston.  “These observations, combined with tips from the public have greatly assisted the NWPD in having these individuals taken into custody.”
