NWPD Seeks Public Assistance in Taxi Robbery

New Westminster – On July 2nd 2015 at approximately 2:00 am, members of the NWPD responded to the area of 5th Avenue and Ash Street for a report of a robbery involving a firearm. The two suspects had originally flagged down the taxi in Burnaby however once they arrived in the area of 5th Avenue and Ash Street in New Westminster they demanded the driver pull over. One of the males then produced a handgun and demanded cash from the driver. The other male produced an axe, put the driver in a choke hold, and demanded his wallet.

“The victim was cooperative throughout, which likely helped him avoid any injury in this circumstance,” stated NWPD media relations officer, Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott.

After getting the victims money the two suspects exited the taxi and fled on foot.

The first suspect is described as a skinny Caucasian male with an unknown tattoo on the left side of his neck. He was wearing a navy blue baseball hat and a light colored jacket.

The second suspect is described as a darker skinned Caucasian male who has a heavy build with blonde hair. He was wearing a white Adidas track jacket.

The NWPD is asking anyone who may be able to identify either of the two suspects in the photographs, or may have information about the incident, to please contact Constable Adam Hohmann at 604-525-5411.
