NWPD stabbing investigation leads to arrests

New Westminster – On January 30, 2015 the NWPD responded to a stabbing in the 1000 block of Columbia Street, New Westminster. A male victim was located suffering from a stab wound and was rushed to a local area hospital where he was treated for serious injuries and later released.  The unknown suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival.

The NWPD Major Crime Unit took over the investigation and on March 3, 2015, 25 year old Muzaffer Darwiash and 23 year old Zahir Darwiash, both from Richmond, were arrested.  These individuals have each been charged with the following criminal offences:

  1. One count of Aggravated Assault – Section 268(2) of the Criminal Code
  2. One count of Assault with a Weapon – Section 267 of the Criminal Code
  3. One count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon – Section 90 (1) of the Criminal Code
  4. One count of Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose – Section 88 (1) of the Criminal Code

A third person, who is a youth and cannot be named, was arrested and has been charged with the following criminal offence:

  1. One count of Aggravated Assault – Section 268(2) of the Criminal Code

All three remain in custody while awaiting their next court appearance which has not been set.
