NWPD seeking public assistance in theft from elderly victim

New Westminster – The NWPD is requesting public assistance in identifying a male believed to be responsible for stealing cash from an elderly victim.

On February 5, 2015 at approximately 1:00 pm, the 70 year old female victim, who is a resident of New Westminster, entered the TD Bank located at 555 6th Street to withdraw cash from the ATM.  While at the ATM, an unknown male engaged the victim in a friendly conversation.  He continued to speak with the victim and followed her out of the bank.  As the victim exited onto 6th Street, the male grabbed the cash from her hand and fled on foot.  The victim, who is not highly mobile, was only able watch as the male fled.

The male is described as:

  • Caucasian;
  • approximately 6’3 with a slim build;
  • long brown hair;
  • wearing a blue jacket, button down dress shirt and beige pants.

Investigators have located surveillance photos of the male believed to be responsible for the theft and are asking for public assistance in identifying the person in the pictures.  This occurrence is currently under investigation by the New Westminster Police Department.  Anyone who may recognize the male in the pictures is asked to contact Constable Brittany Ribeiro at 604-525-5411.
