New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department is happy to announce the deployment of the Green Fleet dual fuel propane and gasoline vehicles as part of the department’s green initiative. On January 6, 2015, the first of four NWPD patrol division vehicles equipped with dual fuel technology took to the streets of New Westminster.
The Green Fleet dual fuel technology employs a system which uses the gasoline fuel source to start the vehicle, then seamlessly switches over to the primary fuel source of propane. The propane fuel source is used while the vehicle is in operation, thus keeping the cost of fuel and emissions that are potentially harmful to the environment down.
The goal is to eventually have the entire fleet of NWPD patrol division vehicles equipped with the green technology, which will in turn bring fuel costs down while substantially lowering vehicle greenhouse gas emissions.
