New Westminster – In 2006, Soo Yo KIM pled guilty to two counts of Mischief after he was observed “scratching” or “keying” vehicles in Port Coquitlam. KIM was suspected at that time of causing damage to hundreds of vehicles and costing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. On November 12, 2014, a west end neighborhood in New Westminster was the target of several Mischief offences to vehicles. Soo Yo Kim became a Subject of Interest in those Mischief offences. As a result, the NWPD Street Crime Unit commenced an investigation and on November 18, 2014, observed Soo Yo KIM damaging vehicles in Burnaby. 37-year-old Soo Yo KIM, a Coquitlam resident, was subsequently arrested and charges have been approved as follows:
1) Mischief Over $5000 which occurred on November 12, 2014 in New Westminster (63 vehicles damaged)
2) Mischief Over $5000 which occurred on November 18, 2014 in Burnaby, BC (66 vehicles damaged)
The NWPD is continuing with the investigation regarding several more incidents of Mischief to vehicles. “It is very satisfying to have taken this prolific offender off the streets to prevent the public from being further victimized,” says Chief Constable Dave Jones.
Soo Yo KIM remains in custody and his next court date is scheduled for Monday, November 24, 2014.
