New Westminster: On September 16, 2014, at 4:30pm, the New Westminster Police Department attended a residence in the 1100 block of Nanaimo Street for a male found deceased within the residence.
The victim has been identified as 38 year old Jason COLLETT. The family has been notified.
On September 17, 2014 the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team located and arrested 25 year old Steven ROGERS at a residence in New Westminster.
Mr. ROGERS has been charged with Second Degree Murder. He made his first appearance in Court this morning and his next Court appearance is scheduled for October 8, 2014. He does not possess a criminal record.
“To have charge approval, only days following a homicide, speaks to the success of an integrated unit,” says Staff Sergeant Jennifer Pound. “The strong work ethic shown by IHIT and New Westminster PD was the catalyst in bringing these homicide charges forward.”
The victim and the accused were known to each other and this homicide was not a random attack. Further details regarding this homicide will not be released as it is now before the Courts.
Quote from NWPD Chief Constable Dave Jones:
“I am extremely pleased with the hard work done by the IHIT and NWPD investigators, which has resulted in the quick apprehension of the individual we believe responsible” said Chief Constable Dave Jones “this is an excellent example of how integrated policing can bring a variety of resources together quickly to successfully investigate complex crimes such as homicides”
