NWPD investigates theft of cancer fundraising boxes

New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department wants to tell the person(s) responsible for stealing cancer research fundraising boxes that they will be brought to justice.

In April, there were three reported cases of the Daffodil Pin fundraising boxes being stolen in New Westminster from several local businesses. Other similar thefts are believed to have gone unreported. A New Westminster Patrol member is currently coordinating the investigation and surveillance video has been requested on the three files.

“It is unacceptable that members of the public donate their hard-earned money to an important cause only to have it stolen by someone who has no regard for helping others,” said Sergeant Diana McDaniel.

A suspect description has been provided by witnesses as follows:

–          First Nations male

–          50 years

–          5 ft 8” height

–          Heavy build

–          Long black hair in a “mullet” style or pony tail

–          Escaped on a bicycle

If anyone has any information about these thefts or the identity of the above-noted suspect, please contact Constable Nis Schmidt at 604-525-5411 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
