New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department, as a result of the execution of a Search Warrant, arrested a male suspect today at his residence on 10th Avenue in New Westminster. The Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team assisted with the execution of the Search Warrant.
As a precautionary measure, and with the cooperation of school administrators, at approximately 11:00 am today, F.W. Howay Elementary School was subject to a “shelter in place” which consisted of the students being restricted to movement within the school only. There were no visitors permitted within the school during this procedure.
At approximately 2:40 pm, NWPD School Liaison Officers along with school administrators, advised parents that their children may be delayed from exiting the school due to a police incident close by, but that it was only for precautionary measures and that the incident was not related to the school in any way.
The suspect male was arrested without incident and the school administrators were subsequently advised that the students can be discharged from the school.
The accused male will be appearing in court on April 24th, 2014 in New Westminster.
