Robbery suspects arrested

New Westminster – On March 18, 2014 at approximately 9:15 pm, two male suspects entered a local restaurant in the 700 block of Sixth Street, intimated they had weapons and ordered staff to the ground. The male suspects then took a small amount of cash from the till and fled to a waiting getaway vehicle driven by a third suspect.

Approximately 15 minutes later, all three suspects were located by police parked in same getaway vehicle in an alley north of the 1200 block of Edinburgh Street. All three suspects were taken into custody at that time despite further efforts to flee.

The three suspects appeared in New Westminster Provincial Court on March 20, 2014, where they were formally charged as follows:

  1. Murid Ghulam, a 19 year old New Westminster resident is facing one count of Robbery under Section 344 (1) (b) and one count of Committing Indictable Offence with Face Masked under Section 351 (2) of the Criminal Code.
  2. One 17 year old New Westminster resident, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), is now facing one count of Robbery under Section 344 (1) (b) and one count of Committing Indictable Offence with Face Masked under Section 351 (2) of the Criminal Code.
  3. A second 17 year old New Westminster resident, who also cannot be identified under the YCJA, is facing one count of Robbery under Section 344 (1) (b) of the Criminal Code.

All three suspects were released on strict bail conditions. Murid Ghulam next appears in New Westminster court on April 7, 2014 while the two accused youth subjects appear again on March 24, 2014.
