NWPD wage increase due to retroactive pay

New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department recently received a query from a media outlet asking for an explanation of the pay increase of NWPD police officers who made $100,000 or more in 2011 as opposed to 2012.

According to the figures provided, 40 NWPD police officers made over $100,000 in 2011 while 71 made over $100,000 in 2012 — a 78% increase. An internal review revealed that after settling a Collective Bargaining Agreement in late 2011, retroactive pay was paid to members, which would have been for negotiated raises effective in both 2010 and 2011 — a full two years of retroactive pay. This amount was paid to members in early 2012 and would have been a significant factor in the increase in salary.
